Goldy Gopher: Prayer-mocking heathen?

Apparently, there’s a bit of a mini-brouhaha brewing over an incident that took place shortly before the start of the Penn State-Minnesota game this weekend.

As the Nittany Lions took to the field, PSU defensive end Jerome Hayes broke ranks from his teammates and made a beeline for a corner of the end zone.  There, he knelt down, crossed himself, and seemed to be deep in prayer.

At the same time, Minnesota’s mascot, Goldy Gopher, dropped to one knee directly in front of Hayes and mimicked the player.

Some viewed it as mocking of Hayes’ religious beliefs — went over like a fart in church, some would say — while others see it as a bad idea that shouldn’t be repeated.

Me?  Much ado over nothing.  But, what do I know.
