As it turns out, Kirby Smart did not lose a single penny by turning down Georgia in order to remain at Alabama.
According to Gentry Estes of the Mobile Press-Register, ‘Bama’s Compensation Committee has approved a new contract for Smart that will pay the defensive coordinator $750,000 annually in base salary.
Additionally, Smart will receive a $34,400 bonus if he’s still on the staff on March 1 of this year.
Smart was reportedly offered $750,000 by Georgia to become their defensive coordinator. After being turned down by Smart and others, UGA ultimately settled on Todd Grantham as their new coordinator. Grantham will make $750,000 annually, making both Smart and Grantham the third-highest paid assistants in college football.
Smart’s March bonus, obviously, will push him into the third spot all alone.
