In late January, a little over a month after he was rumored to be a candidate to replace Charlie Strong as Florida’s defensive coordinator, Tyrone Nix was given a contract extension and pay raise by Ole Miss.
At the time, the school did not release the financials details of the extension that could keep the coordinator through the 2012 season. Now, however, the Jackson Clarion-Ledger has obtained the details of Nix’s new deal.
And, indeed, Nix made out well, thanks in large part to the interest he’d drawn from the Gators.
In 2009, Nix made $365,000 as the Rebels’ coordinator. According to the Clarion-Ledger, Nix will now make $500,000 a year per the tweaked contract.
Nix will far and away be the highest-paid assistant on Houston Nutt‘s staff, outdistancing offensive line/assistant head coach Mike Markuson‘s $320,000 annual pay.
New offensive coordinator Dave Rader‘s two-year contract is worth $275,000 annually.
All told, Ole Miss will spend a little more than $2.1 million on their assistants. Nutt will pull down roughly $2.6 million in 2010.
