Cyclones give the boot to starting lineman

For the past seventeen games, Scott Haughton has been firmly entrenched as the starter at right tackle for Iowa State.

After today’s events, that streak will be no more.

According to the Ames Tribune, Haughton has been dismissed by head coach Paul Rhoads from the Cyclones football program for violating unspecified team rules.

The junior lineman missed spring practice in 2009 due to academic issues, and an athletic department spokesman gave the Des Moines Register a “no comment” when asked if this dismissal was related to academics.

The Register also reports that an online records check revealed no legal problems for Haughton.
