For the third time in the last four years, Notre Dame lost to Navy. To add injury to insult, and for the umpteenth time this year, the Irish have lost a player to a significant injury.
According to both the Chicago Tribune and ESPN.com, the anchor of Notre Dame’s defensive line, Ian Williams, suffered a torn MCL in his left knee during the second half of the loss to the Midshipmen. The school has not confirmed the injury, although Williams was not listed on the Irish’s two-deep depth chart Monday.
The initial prognosis is that the senior will miss the next 4-6 weeks because of the injury, meaning that his final collegiate regular season is in all likelihood over.
ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad writes that there’s a chance Williams could return for a bowl game if the Irish were to become bowl eligible, which is not exactly a given with the Domers sporting a 4-4 record with four games remaining.
Sean Cwynar Will Likely take over for Williams in the starting lineup.
