Vols suspend starter for Saturday's game

OK, it’s “just” the fullback, but still…

Head coach Derek Dooley announced Wednesday that starting fullback Kevin Cooper has been suspended for a violation of the team’s academic policy.  The senior will sit out Saturday’s game with No. 17 South Carolina in Columbia.

Everybody’s on the same academic accountability policy,” Dooley said yesterday according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. “Team hurts, team suffers.”

Cooper, who has no carries this season but has six catches for 39 yards, has started five of the Vols’ seven games this season.  He will be replaced by freshman Channing Fugate.
