USC’s freshman running back, Dillon Baxter, was hospitalized Thursday with an unspecified illness and dehydration, said coach Lane Kiffin. Baxter, who is third on the team in rushing with 248 yards, attended the end of yesterday’s practice in sweats and has not been cleared to play this Saturday against Oregon State by team medical staff.
“He came in very ill today and we had him checked out and he wasn’t able to practice,” Kiffin said. “”We’ll keep working on him through tonight and tomorrow morning.”
Baxter missed time this season with a game-one suspension against Hawaii and turf toe against Cal. While highly recruited out of high school, Baxter has already shown early signs of off the field trouble and, at one point, admitted he hadn’t given 100 percent to the program.
