It was widely expected that the 2010 season would be the final year Robert Sands would spend at West Virginia.
Saturday, the safety confirmed the expected.
Speaking to Joe Schad of ESPN.com, Sands said that he will indeed leave collegiate eligibility on the table and make himself available for the 2011 NFL draft.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” Sands said. “I can cover receivers or tight ends. I consider myself a ballhawk.”
The 6-5, 220-pound defensive back was named first-team All-Big East the past two seasons. It’s highly likely Sands will be taken somewhere in the first two rounds.
