Amidst all of the offseason feces that college football fans are forced to wade through, there’s some very, very good news coming out of Syracuse.
The father of former Syracuse punter Rob Long tells the Syracuse Post-Standard that there are no signs of a brain tumor in his son’s head that had sent a scare through the entire family. An MRI performed late last week, the results of which the family received today, revealed that the tumor had been eradicated through a combination of surgery and radiation/chemotherapy treatments.
Long was diagnosed with what was described at the time as a benign brain tumor in early December, cutting short the kicker’s 2010 season. Subsequent surgery revealed the presence of malignant cells in his brain, forcing Long to undergo six weeks of additional treatment.
He completed those treatments earlier this month. Despite the treatments, the Post-Standard writes that Long “has continued to work out and train with his kicking coach with an eye on becoming an NFL kicker.”
Hopefully, The Big Football Fan Upstairs will continue to bless Long both medically and in his pursuit of a professional career.
