Harvey Updyke Jr.’s trial delayed

For those hoping to see Harvey Updyke Jr. sweat it out in a good ‘ol fashioned southern courthouse this summer, prepare to be disappointed.

A judge agreed earlier today that the trial for Updyke, who is accused of poisoning the trees at Auburn’s Toomer’s Corner, will be postponed from this summer to the fall.

Updyke has pleaded not guilty to state charges for reasons of mental disease or defect. Updkye will not face federal charges, but was indicted by Lee County (Ala.) grand jury for, among other things, criminal mischief and the desecration of a venerated object.
