K-State names their starting quarterback for fall camp

When Kansas State players report to fall camp in preparation for their season-opening game against Eastern Kentucky, it looks as though junior Collin Klein will be navigating the Wildcats’ first-team offense.

He’ll take the first snap when we start in the fall,” head coach Bill Snyder said during Big 12 Media Days, citing Klein’s leadership during summer workouts as the reason for the decision.

After that first snap, though, the job could be up for grabs again with Klein, JUCO transfer Justin Tuggle and senior Sammuel Lamur. Still, Snyder says at this point it appears to be Klein’s job to lose.

“I’m just trying to prepare myself as best I can for the season and also mentally be prepared for the chess game that goes on on Saturday,” Klein said. “I’ve enjoyed the process. Hopefully I continue to improve.”

In 2010, Klein tallied 432 yards rushing, 138 yards passing and scored seven touchdowns while splitting time with Carson Coffman.
