Mizzou says ‘no, no,no’ to SEC rumors

Yeah, I know.  I’m growing weary of it as well.  But, such is the nature of this Internet beast we feed, so here we are.

The latest media-type to cannonball into the conference expansion fray?  Doug Gottlieb, the former Notre Dame/Oklahoma State basketball player and current ESPN radio host.  According to a tweet from Gottlieb late Saturday morning, not only is Texas A&M a definite go for a move to the SEC, “Clemson,FSU [and] Missouri [are] likely to join” the conference as well.

The news regarding the first two schools are not at all shocking as both Florida State and Clemson have been mentioned over the past 24 hours or so.  Mizzou, though, is a relative newcomer — although Clay Travis would take exception to that description — to the expansion rumor mill.  And, as expected, the school’s reaction to the mini-report has been swift and full of denials.

Athletic director Mike Alden told Vahe Gregorian of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, when asked if there was any truth to the ESPN report, “no, no, no.”  Alden added that “there’s nothing” to the report.  Gabe DeArmond of PowerMizzou.com buttressed that stance, with Alden telling him that the school hasn’t “been in discussions with anybody.”

There is one bit of confirmed news regarding Mizzou taking place today, although it involves their conference: a previously unscheduled conference call between Big 12 athletic directors — we’re assuming A&M won’t get the call-in number or the password — and commissioner Dan Beebe will take place at 3 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon.  Gee, I wonder what they’ll be discussing…
