Jordan Jefferson connected to ‘violent night of activity’

The question is, was he the victim or the aggressor?

While details are very scant right now, Randy Rosetta of TigerSportsDigest.com is reporting that Jordan Jefferson has been “implicated as being involved” in what Rosetta describes as a violent night of activity Thursday.  The alleged incident occurred at a bar off the LSU campus.

A Baton Rouge Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Rosetta that Jefferson was involved in an incident at Shady’s Bar.  An investigation is ongoing, and the police have yet to determine whether the starting quarterback is a victim or a suspect in the case.

Four people were taken to the hospital for injuries incurred during the incident; Jefferson was not one of the four.  It’s unclear if any other LSU football players were involved.

It’s also unclear whether Jefferson claimed to police that he was asleep at the bar as the melee unfolded around him.

The school has yet to address the situation.  The Tigers are not scheduled to practice today, so the local media Will Likely get the opportunity to question head coach Les Miles on what transpired and what role his player may have played.

Following a disastrous and embarrassing season of QB play in 2010, Jefferson has drawn rave reviews from the coaching staff for the improvement he’s made during spring practice and through summer camp.  LSU will face Oregon in the season opener in Arlington just over two weeks from today in a match-up that will be rife with national title implications; the Ducks are ranked No. 3 in the preseason coaches’ poll, while the Tigers are right behind them at No. 4.

If Jefferson is unavailable for the opener — or even beyond — because of the incident, JUCO transfer and former Georgia QB Zach Mettenberger would likely line up under center.

UPDATED 2:16 p.m. ET: USA Today reports that “other football players, who have not been specifically identified yet,” were involved as well.  A Baton Rouge Police spokesperson said that while it’s possible Jefferson or other players could be arrested, that’s “premature right now.”  The police are still waiting to interview Jefferson and the others.
