D.J. Shoemate done for the year at UConn

So, in other non-realignment news…

Former USC fullback D.J. Shoemate, who transferred to UConn in 2010, was ruled out for the year by head coach Paul Pasqualoni a few days ago following a dislocated shoulder he suffered against Iowa State.

“D.J. took one heck of a shot in the Iowa State game and he dislocated his shoulder. We had the MRI stuff done and it clearly … he hasn’t had the strength since,” Pasqualoni said. “He had been practicing with a harness and a strap to keep it in place. The MRI showed that he needs surgery. I just didn’t think that in his position, as much as you have to use that arm and that shoulder, to catch, to block, to do all of those things, that he would be able manage to the season.”

The school has asked the NCAA to grant Shoemate be granted a medical redshirt. On the year, Shoemate has eight carries for 28 yards and a catch for nine yards.
