Toon: ‘I will be out there’ for showdown with Spartans

At least twice this week, talking heads appearing on ESPN’s vast array of networks stated that Wisconsin’s Nick Toon either would not or was not expected to play in the huge matchup with Michigan State this weekend.

The wide receiver, however, very much disagrees with those assessments of his availability.

For the first time since aggravating his surgically-repaired foot during the Oct. 1 win over Nebraska, Toon practiced Tuesday ahead of the Spartans game.  While he missed the Indiana win this past weekend, the senior was very emphatic afterward that he will play Saturday.

“Fortunately ESPN doesn’t make that decision,” said Toon. “I make that decision. I practiced today, felt great and I will be out there on Saturday. …

“But like I said, I felt great in practice today and will be out there on Saturday. They’re going off what they know. Obviously I know myself better than anybody else.”

It should be noted that the team has not ruled one way or the other, at least publicly, whether Toon will be available.

Toon did not participate in spring practice due to the injury and subsequent surgery, and the issue forced him out of a week’s worth of summer camp as well.  The past issues with the foot has likely led to the current speculation.

Despite missing a game, the senior leads UW in receptions (25), receiving yards (447) and receiving touchdowns (six).
