Phillip Fulmer wants Kansas job?

Three seasons after being fired by Tennessee — it seems longer than that, no? — Phillip Fulmer could be back on the sidelines again at another school.

At least, that’s what Fulmer seems to want. is reporting that Fulmer is interested in the Kansas job that recently opened after Turner Gill was fired after just his second season.

He told me a little over a week ago, ‘Let ’em know I’m interested,’” said a Lawrence resident who worked with Fulmer at Wichita State. “The guy had a 152-52 record playing in the best conference in America! He wanted the job two years ago, and they hired a guy who was 20-30 in a bad league?”

“They”, of course, being KU, and “a guy” being Gill.

But it’s still unclear if Kansas feels the same way about Fulmer; KUSports also breaks down a list of potential candidates for the job. The former Vols coach was apparently interested in the Jayhawks opening two years ago when Gill was hired, and Fulmer hasn’t appeared on many coaching radars since leaving Tennessee.

There was a brief time where Fulmer was thought to be a candidate for the UT athletic director spot, but that ultimately went to David Hart.
