This has not been a good week off the field for either side of The Rivalry.
On Thursday, Michigan defensive lineman Will Campbell was arraigned on two charges -- one a “felony” -- that stemmed from an early-morning Dukes of Hazzard recreation back in April. Now, the other half of The Game has been hit by a legal issue as well.
According to both 10TV.com and the Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State tight end Jake Stoneburner has been arrested and charged with obstructing official business. The arrest occurred sometime Saturday and was made by the Shawnee Hills (Ohio) police, the television station reported.
There are no details available yet as to what led to the arrest. Per the Ohio Revised Code, “obstructing official business” is defined as follows:(A) No person, without privilege to do so and with purpose to prevent, obstruct, or delay the performance by a public official of any authorized act within the public official’s official capacity, shall do any act that hampers or impedes a public official in the performance of the public official’s lawful duties.
(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of obstructing official business. Except as otherwise provided in this division, obstructing official business is a misdemeanor of the second degree. If a violation of this section creates a risk of physical harm to any person, obstructing official business is a felony of the fifth degree.
As a redshirt junior last season, Stoneburner led the Buckeyes in receiving touchdowns with seven, including three in a season-opening win over Akron. He also finished third on the team in receptions (14) and receiving yards (193).
Coming out of the first spring practice under Urban Meyer, Stoneburner was listed as the starter at tight end.
UPDATED 8:08 p.m. ET: As it turns out, Stoneburner was one of two Buckeyes arrested for the same “incident”.
According to 10TV.com, offensive lineman Jack Mewhort was charged with the same offense as Stoneburner. A third male who is not connected to the OSU football program was also charged.
And what exactly did this incident involve? Apparently, peeing & fleeing:Police told 10TV News that two officers saw the three men who they believed were urinating between buildings. The officers attempted to talk with them but they ran away.
Two of them were captured while they were crouched in between vehicles, police said. The third person was found hiding in nearby woods after officers threatened to use a police dog.#smdh
