Projected Texas QB starter David Ash day-to-day with hamstring injury

During Big 12 media days, Texas coach Mack Brown said he hoped to have a starting quarterback chosen by the time this season started.

Barring a preseason camp surprise or major injury, that job is projected to go to David Ash, although there has been a minor setback for the sophomore regarding the latter possibility. Orangebloods.com first reported that Ash sustained a hamstring injury during Friday workouts. Sean Adams of 104.9 ESPN Austin later reported that the injury, which Texas officially classified as a “strain”, will put Ash on day-to-day status.

The Longhorns report to preseason camp at the end of next week. How healthy Ash will be then remains to be seen, but for now, it’s a minor setback that should keep the competition with Case McCoy going for just a little while longer.
