Scooter incident leads to arrest of Mizzou QB

Somehow, and I can’t quite put my finger on why, this feels beyond appropriate.

Missouri has had no shortage of quarterback issues this offseason, from James Franklin‘s shoulder surgery to Corbin Berkstresser‘s traffic incident and Ashton Glaser’s transfer. Might as well add one more just days before the first college football weekend.

Per Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune, freshman Maty Mauk (not pictured) was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of four misdemeanor charges related to leaving an accident.

On a scooter. Carrying two female passengers*. Allegedly.

From the Tribune:

At 12:17 a.m. MU police spotted Mauk make contact with two vehicles while driving his scooter east on Kentucky Blvd. — with two female passengers on board. Officers attempted to pull Mauk over, but he drove away, turning south on Curtis Ave. and also ran a stop sign, according to the incident report. The officers later found the scooter abandoned between two cars in a parking lot.

Through their investigation, the officers contacted Mauk and he turned himself into MU police headquarters at 11:18 a.m. and was arrested on suspicion of four misdemeanor charges: leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, resisting arrest by fleeing a vehicle, operating a vehicle in a reckless manner and failure to observe a traffic control device.

Mauk posted $1,000 bond and has been released. A Mizzou spokesperson said the school is aware of the situation and has no comment at this time.

The freshman from Ohio is the Tigers’ third-string quarterback. Mizzou opens up the season Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana.
