Predictions 101 — Capital One Bowl

No. 6 Georgia vs. No. 23 Nebraska
Tues., Jan. 1 – 1 p.m. ET, ABC
Orlando, Fla. – Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium

Georgia had designs on the BCS Championship Game. Nebraska believed it was going to the Rose Bowl.

Georgia fell four yards short.

Nebraska needed, um, a little more than that.

In a result that still strains belief, the Cornhuskers (10-3) were embarrassed by Wisconsin 70-31 at the Big Ten Championship Game, sending the red-clad masses from Pasadena to Orlando in a nanosecond.

Obviously, it’s time to regroup. Georgia (11-2) was feisty against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, falling just short, 32-28.

So now it’s a battle of wills. Who wants this one more? It’s a joke that Georgia isn’t playing in a BCS bowl, but that’s the system. The Bulldogs have a 12-win season at stake – no joke there – and junior QB Aaron Murray wants to deliver that. Murray might not need to pass 40 times. Nebraska showed zero ability to stop the run against Wisconsin.

Side note: Nebraska AD and legendary coach Tom Osborne will retire after this game. He was on staff when Nebraska defeated Georgia 45-6 at the 1969 Sun Bowl, the only other football meeting between these programs.

Opening point spread: Georgia by 8 1/2

The pick: Georgia 38, Nebraska 28
