One day after SMU officially added a former Boise State football player to its roster, another FBS program from the same state has done the same.
Following a couple of weeks worth of speculation, Baylor confirmed Tuesday that defensive end Sam Ukwuachu has enrolled at the university and will be a member of the Bears football program moving forward. As expected, the lineman will sit out the 2013 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules and have two seasons of eligibility remaining starting in 2014.
While Art Briles and his defensive coaching staff won’t be getting a player who can make an immediate impact, they will be getting one who has the talent to do so down the road.
In 2012, Ukwuachu played in all 13 games in his second season with the Broncos, starting the final 12 games of the year. After being credited with seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks — each total being third on the team — he was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.
