Nick Marshall says he’ll ‘be fine,’ will practice Sunday

It appears Auburn’s sidelining of Nick Marshall was indeed precautionary in nature.

While Gus Malzahn was unable -- or unwilling -- to offer up an update on the severity of his starting quarterback’s injury, Marshall’s teammates were more than willing. And, according to them, it’s nothing even remotely resembling anything major or serious.

“Nick said he’ll be fine,” tight end C.J. Uzomah said . “He said it was kind of a precautionary thing that he didn’t go back out there. He said he’ll be out there Sunday practicing.”

Marshall was knocked of the game against FAU very early in the second quarter with a shoulder injury incurred at the end of a sack. The fact that the Tigers were facing the 2-6 Owls and were up 21-0 at the time of the injury likely played a significant role in erring on the side of caution.

Prior to the injury, Marshall had attempted just one pass, but had rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown. Jeremy Johnson replaced Marshall and, on the first post-injury play, connected on a 36-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 28-0.

The freshman backup finished the game 10-of-16 for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
