Report: Pat Narduzzi turns down offer to become UConn’s coach

At least for now, Michigan State has kept its Broyles Award-winning coach in the fold.

Citing unnamed sources, FootballScoop.com is reporting that Pat Narduzzi has turned down an offer to become the next head coach at UConn. The defensive coordinator’s decision reportedly came after a meeting with UConn athletic director Warde Manuel Wednesday morning.

Narduzzi had interviewed for the job as Paul Pasqualoni‘s permanent replacement earlier in the week, and was considered by some to be the front-runner for the job. FootballScoop tweeted that “Manuel’s offer to Narduzzi was ‘aggressive’ for the [head coach] but not as robust for [assistants] as was hoped for.”

Dave Clawson, who was also reportedly a candidate, was named as Wake Forest’s head coach yesterday. UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster and Ball State head coach Pete Lembo have also been mentioned in connection to the opening at some point during the search.
