LB Aaron Porter leaving UCLA, heading to Wazzu

If Aaron Porter is to ever live up to his recruiting hype, he’ll do so in the Pacific Northwest.

First reported by CougFan.com and subsequently confirmed by the Orange County Register among others, the linebacker has decided to leave UCLA and make Washington State his next football stop.  Neither program has publicly announced any developments regarding the player.

If the transfer comes to fruition, Porter would be compelled to sit out the 2014 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.  Beginning in 2015, he would then have two years of eligibility remaining.

Porter was a four-star member of the Bruins’ 2012 recruiting class, rated as the No. 22 outside linebacker in the country.  Despite those recruiting service  superlatives, Porter never played a down for the Bruins.  In fact, he was moved from linebacker to fullback last season.

Or, as the Los Angeles Daily News wrote, “[h]e was not enrolled for spring quarter and seemed unlikely to return to a team that played 18 true freshmen over him last season.”
