Promising Terps WR suspended for last two games

A career day for Juwann Winfree this past Saturday portended good things for the Maryland freshman moving forward.

Unfortunately, there’s been a significant off-field hiccup introduced to the wide receiver’s on-field giddyup.

Monday night, the Terps announced that Winfree has been suspended for the last two games of the regular season. Other than “violating the student-athlete code of conduct,” no reason for the suspension was given.

Because of the suspension, Winfree will miss games against Michigan and Rutgers. There’s no word on Winfree’s availability for the postseason.

This season, Winfree has 10 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Four of those catches and 80 of those yards and one of those touchdowns came in this past Saturday’s loss to Michigan State.

Winfree was a four-star member of the Terps’ 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 36 receiver in the country and the No. 7 player at any position in the state of New Jersey.
