As we inch closer and closer to the start of the new college football season, more and more betting odds will continue to label Ohio State as the team to beat. And understandably so, because the Buckeyes return a stacked roster and have the deepest quarterback depth in the nation, one of the top defensive players returning on the other side, a breakout running back and plenty of players capable of fulfilling supporting roles for Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes. And now the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook has handed Ohio State 3-1 odds to win the College Football Playoff national championship this upcoming season.
Last season’s other College Football Playoff participants are among the top teams according to the championship odds from Westlake. Alabama has the second-best odds at 7-1. Florida State and Oregon each have 20-1 odds according to the Westgate. TCU is tied with Alabama for the second-best odds at 7-1, followed by Auburn (12-1), USC (15-1) and Baylor (18-1). Notre Dame is also tied with Florida State and Oregon with 20-1 odds.
These odds from this sports book have been updated since the end of the season, fresh off Ohio State’s championship victory over Oregon. At the time, Ohio State was tabbed 9-2 favorites to repeat as national champions. Alabama had been given 8-1 odds, USC was 12-1 and Baylor was also 15-1. TCU was in the top five and holds firm with 7-1 odds since January according to this sports book.
For the sake of comparison, Bovada’s latest championship odds list Ohio State at 7-2, Alabama 7-1, TCU 10-1 and Auburn and Florida State at 12-1. Ohio State is also a 1-2 favorite to win the Big Ten this fall according to yet another sportsbook.
