Boise St., Michigan St. among Week 2 favorites


( — The Boise State Broncos will be gunning for an 11th straight-up win in a row on Saturday when they visit the BYU Cougars as three-point road favorites on the college football betting lines at sportsbooks monitored by

The Broncos were a disappointment in their Week 1 victory over the Washington Huskies, failing to cover as 12.5-point favorites in a 16-13 win, dropping them to 2-4 against the spread in their past six games.

BYU enters Saturday’s Broncos vs. Cougars betting matchup at LaVell Edwards Stadium with eight SU wins in their past nine September dates, but have failed to cover in each of their past five games against Mountain West opponents.

As well, the Cougars lost starting quarterback Taysom Hill for the season in their opener with a foot injury.

The Stanford Cardinal will try to bounce back from a 16-6 Week 1 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats when they take on the Central Florida Knights as 17.5-point favorites this week.

Listed at No. 21 in the AP Top 25 preseason rankings, Stanford saw a three-game SU and ATS winning streak end with the loss and is just 4-3 SU and 4-2-1 ATS in its last seven games at home.

The Michigan State Spartans have emerged as 3.5-point betting favorites for their marquee Saturday night date with the Oregon Ducks, in a contest that opened as a pick’em.

The Spartans have won five straight SU, but saw their four-game ATS win streak end in Week 1 when they failed to cover as 16-point chalk in a 37-24 defeat of the Western Michigan Broncos.

The Ducks also failed to reward bettors in their season opener last Saturday, failing to cover as 35-point favorites in a 61-42 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles.

In other early Week 2 college football betting action, Wake Forest and Syracuse kick off the ACC conference schedule with the Orange perched as 4.5-point favorites over the Demon Deacons.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be aiming for a third straight win, SU and ATS, when they travel to Charlottesville on Saturday to take on the Virginia Cavaliers as early 11.5-point favorites.

The Utah State Aggies will be seeking to end a seven-game SU losing streak against  rival Utah when the two teams meet on Friday night, with the Utes perched as strong 13.5-point favorites.

And Jim Harbaugh will be searching for his first SU win as Michigan bench boss, and the Wolverines’ first SU win in their past four games as favorites, when they battle the Oregon State Beavers as 15-point chalk this week.
