LSU, Alabama favored in Week 3 SEC matchups

( – Action heats up in the SEC in Week 3 of the college football betting slate with four conference matchups on the schedule starting with the Auburn Tigers, who travel to face LSU on Saturday as 7.5-point underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by

Auburn, ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25, is off to a 2-0 straight up start to the 2015 season with wins over Louisville and Jacksonville State but failed to record a victory against the spread in either game, needing overtime to get past the Gamecocks by a 27-20 score as heavy 39-point favorites.

That extends Auburn’s ATS losing streak to seven games entering Saturday afternoon’s Tigers vs. Tigers betting matchup at Tiger Stadium, and places their position in the national rankings in jeopardy.

No. 13 LSU finally got their season started in Week 2, topping the Mississippi State Bulldogs 21-19 after their Week 1 date with the McNeese State Cowboys was cancelled due to lightning.

The SU win over the Bulldogs was just LSU’s second in their past five contests, while the ATS loss in that game dropped the Tigers to 1-3-1 ATS.

LSU was crushed 41-7 by Auburn as a seven-point road underdog in last year’s meeting, but are 7-0 SU and 4-3 ATS in their last seven home dates against their SEC West division rivals.

Elsewhere, No.2 Alabama plays host to No. 15 Ole Miss on Saturday night as 6-point favorites in Week 3’s other SEC West matchup.

The Crimson Tide will be looking for their 10th consecutive SU home win over the Rebels, but are just 4-5 ATS during that streak and lost 23-17 to Mississippi last season as 4.5-point favorites.

In the SEC East, South Carolina visits No. 7 Georgia as a 17-point underdog. The Gamecocks were stunned by a 26-22 loss to Kentucky as 7-point favorites in Week 2, while the Bulldogs have won three straight SU but are just 4-5 ATS in their last nine.

The Wildcats will be gunning for a second straight upset victory when they host the Florida Gators as three-point underdogs.

The Gators have struggled with consistency, going 7-5 SU in their past 12 games, but are undefeated SU in their last 19 games (12-6-1 ATS) against Kentucky according to the OddsShark College Football Database.

In other Week 3 college football betting action, No.11 Clemson has moved to a 6.5-point favorite for their Thursday night contest with the Louisville Cardinals, while No. 9 Florida State travels to Boston College on Friday favored by 7 points, and No. 8 Notre Dame takes on No. 14 Georgia Tech as a 2.5-point underdog.
