Fighting Irish set for pick ‘em matchup vs. Clemson

ndfans

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be looking to strengthen their position as a College Football Playoff contender on Saturday night as they travel to Clemson to face the undefeated Tigers in a matchup pegged as a pick ‘em at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

No. 6 Notre Dame maintained its ranking in the AP Top 25 this week following their 62-27 thrashing of the Massachusetts Minutemen, improving to 4-0 straight up on the season and 3-1 against the spread. The Irish covered as heavy 28-point chalk against the Minutemen last week.

Notre Dame now rides a five-game SU win streak into Saturday night’s Fighting Irish vs. Tigers betting matchup at Memorial Stadium, but are a middling 4-3 SU in their last seven road contests, and 3-4 ATS.

Two of those roads wins have come against ACC squads this season, including a 30-22 victory over No. 14 Georgia Tech as a 1-point favorite and a narrow 34-27 win over Virginia.

Those wins have improved the Fighting Irish to an impressive 13-4 SU in their last 17 games against the ACC, but just 8-9 ATS. The squad is also winless SU in their last five road meetings with nationally ranked teams.

No. 12 Clemson is coming off a bye week during which they fell one spot in the national rankings.

The 3-0 Tigers eked out a 20-17 win over Louisville in their last outing, failing to cover as five-point favorites but are an outstanding 11-0 SU and 8-3 ATS in their past 11 home games according to the OddsShark College Football Database, and have scored an average of over 38 points per game in their last four at home.

Saturday’s date with the Irish marks Clemson’s first home game against a ranked team since they suffered a 51-14 beating by Florida State in 2013, dropping them to 4-4 SU in their last eight games at home against Top 25 squads.

But despite their past struggles against the nation’s best teams, the Tigers have maintained 25/1 odds in college football national championship futures betting, trailing Notre Dame, who have held steady at 14/1.
