Ohio State jumps past Alabama as Bovada title favorite

When last we left Bovada.lv‘s odds for winning the 2016 national championship, Alabama, fresh off winning the second edition of the College Football Playoff, was listed as the favorite.  A month later, the Tide’s been leapfrogged by the first playoff winner.

In its first set of title odds following National Signing Day, Bovada has installed Ohio State as a 6/1 favorite to win the next CFP championship.  It’s quite the move for the Buckeyes as they were 12/1 on Jan. 13, behind four other teams: ‘Bama (7/1), Clemson (15/2), Baylor (12/1) and Michigan (12/1).

The Tide and their opponent in last season’s championship game, the Tigers, remain at the same 7/1 and 15/2, respectively.  The Wolverines, coming off a highly-successful recruiting haul in Jim Harbaugh‘s second go-’round in Ann Arbor, saw their odds shorten to 7/1.

Other teams that made big betting strides include Tennessee (14/1, from 22/1), Michigan State (25/1, from 33/1) and Auburn (33/1, from 50/1).  Those that have seen their odds lengthen since the last time around include Baylor (12/1), Notre Dame (14/1) and Stanford (14/1) dip to 16/1.
