Illinois adds Auburn grad transfer Gimel President

Appropriately enough on Super Tuesday, one Big Ten football program officially landed itself a new President.

In a press release Tuesday night, Illinois announced that Gimel President has been added to the Illini’s roster after transferring in from Auburn. As President is coming in as a graduate transfer, he’ll be eligible to play immediately in 2016.

This upcoming season will be the defensive end’s final year of eligibility.

“President is a terrific addition to our defensive line,” head coach Bill Cubit said in a statement announcing the addition. “He has played at a high level while in the SEC and will make an immediate contribution when he steps on the field. We’re excited about the added maturity that he will bring to what already may be our deepest position on the defensive side of the ball.”

President was a three-star member of the Tigers’ 2012 recruiting class, rated as the No. 14 player at any position in the state of South Carolina. He played in 25 games the past three seasons, starting 10 of those contests. Nine of those starts came during the 2014 season.
